In the Domesday Survey of 1086 AD the area was called 'Wistanestune' ('Crewe', then, didn't exist and only appeared in the eighteen hundreds being born of the railway age) and was a going concern having a population of 25 to 30 people, valuable woodland and arable land, and deer roaming about. 'Joey' made the nearby stream his home along with his lady pen in the 1930's and became a famous, if somewhat irascible, resident. His life was cut short by an 'argument' with a milk float !

Started recording March 21st 2013.

The weather station in use is the Davis Vantage Pro2 with daytime fan-assisted radiation shield. The meteorological day used at this station ends at midnight.

'Cumulus' forecast for Wistaston: Partly cloudy and cooler.

'EVAPOTRANSPIRATION' ?: The conversion of water to water vapour, from the soil by evaporation and from plants by transpiration; the amount of water so lost.

The barometer atmospheric pressure shown is 'QNH', i.e., it's adjusted for site elevation to indicate sea level pressure. The Davis pressure readings are monitored against a Greisinger GTD 1100 barometer and local airfields (Liverpool, Manchester, Shawbury and Birmingham).

The cloudbase indicated in 'gauges' is the theoretical height above ground level at which clouds might form based on temperature and dew point. Cloudbase as calculated by Cumulus = 577 ft

For those not of a nautical/aeronautical bent, a quick and easy conversion from KTS (knots: nautical miles per hour) to MPH (miles per hour): MPH = KTS x 1.15, e.g., 20kts=(20x1.15)=23mph. KTS to KM, multiply Knots by 1.85.

'WISTASTON WEATHER' is operated by a village resident: a weather enthusiast who attempts to provide 'aeronautically' accurate information but makes no warranties on the exactness of the data provided or of the forecast which is automatically generated from that data. Yes, I do know that 'data' is plural ! If you prefer, substitute 'these' for 'that'. Please note: The positional Latitude and Longitude indicated do not, for security reasons, point to the station but to a nearby public car park. N.B., there may be occasions when the rain sensor indicates a reading when it's obvious that it hasn't been raining. This is likely caused, during the winter time, by frost/snow accruing on the collector which later melts and produces an out of context positive.

The flag is of Northumberland, England, my county of birth and Alnwick is the county town. Alnwick Castle, 'Hogwarts', is the family home of the Duke(s) of Northumberland.
